Welcome back to your daily Sixers draft pick tracker.

We’ll start off with a table at the top summarizing the status of the three picks. Then we’ll dive into the details of each pick, what teams are around them in the standings, how the games last night impacted the Sixers’ draft pick status, and who you should cheer for tonight in order to maximize those ping pong ball combinations.

(In parenthesis will be whether the outcome is good or bad for that pick, if it happened last night, and who to cheer for if the game takes place tonight).

2017 Draft Pick Tracker – Summary

Pick Place GB (from 2nd) Games Left Notes
Lakers 2nd 18 44.2% chance at conveying
Sixers 5th 4.0 19 88 lottery combinations
Kings 8th 6.0 19 43 lottery combinations

Lakers Pick (currently 2nd):

Lakers draft pick – Current Status:

Team Place Record GB (from LAL) Games Left Last 10
Nets 1st 11-51 -7.0 20 2-8
Lakers 2nd 19-45 18 1-9
Suns 3rd 21-43 +2.0 18 4-6
Magic 4th 23-41 +3.5 18 3-7

(Where the Lakers currently are in the standings)

The more time that goes by, the more and more it looks like the Lakers are locked into that #2 slot.

Last night’s games:

  • Lakers lost (bad): The Lakers got obliterated by the Mavs. They’re not catching anybody. At this point, I’m rooting for the Suns to go on a winning streak and just accepting the Lakers finishing with the 2nd worst record.
  • Suns lost (good): The Suns lost to the Wizards, which is technically good for the Lakers pick as it keeps Phoenix within 2 wins of the Lakers. But it keeps the Suns 2 wins away from catching the Sixers, which to me is the bigger deal.

Tonight’s games:

  • Bulls @ Magic: The Magic are “only” 4 games up on the Lakers, so I’ll technically include this game here. That being said, with the Magic having the chance to catch the Sixers and/or Kings, I’d hope they’re victorious anyway.

Sixers/Kings Pick (currently 5th):

Team Place Record GB (Sixers) Games Left Last 10 Lotto combinations
Phoenix 3rd 21-43 -2.5 18 4-6 156
Magic 4th 23-41 -0.5 18 3-7 119

Kings 7th 25-38 +2.0 19 4-6 (L5) 43
Wolves 8th 25-37 +2.5 20 6-4 28
Knicks 9th 26-38 +2.5 18 4-6 17
Mavs 10th 27-36 +4.0 19 6-4 11

(How the Sixers and Kings fit into the standings. Lottery ball combinations based on if the season ended today.)

Current combined odds:

  • #1 pick: 13.1%
  • Top-3 pick: 41.4%

Last night’s games:

  • Phoenix lost (bad): Phoenix kept it close against a good Washington team, but the loss keeps them 2 wins from catching the Sixers and 4 from the Kings. The Suns are playing better basketball than either of late, but they’re running out of time.
  • Dallas won (good): The Mavs won, and they’re now 2 wins up on the Kings with the 10th worst record. At 5-1 in their last 6 games there shouldn’t be much concern over the Kings catching them.

Tonight’s games:

  • Knicks @ Bucks (go Knicks): The Knicks are just a half game up on the Kings for the 7th spot.
  • Clippers @ Wolves (go Wolves): The Wolves are, also, just a half game up on the Kings.
  • Raptors @ Pelicans (go Pels): The Pelicans are a half game behind the Kings with the 6th worst record.
  • Bulls @ Magic (go Magic): The Magic are a half game behind the Sixers and 2.5 behind the Kings.
  • Kings @ Spurs (go Spurs): The Kings have a brutal schedule coming up, which keeps the hope alive they could fall all the way to the 4th worst record.

Awesome, great stuff. This is what is interesting to watch now, especially with the brutal basketball the sixers have been playing.
