Sixers add former Georgetown Hoya Hollis Thompson to training camp roster

According to Mark Deeks of ShamSports, the 76ers have signed former Georgetown Hoya Hollis Thompson.

Thompson played 3 years at Georgetown.  He averaged 12.8 points adn 5.5 rebounds on 46.4% shooting (43% from three point range) during his junior season before declaring for the 2012 NBA draft, where he would go undrafted.

Thompson spent last season playing for the Tulsa 66ers in the NBA D-League, averaging 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game.  He shot 44.7% from the field and only 28.8% from three point range as he struggled to extend his range out to the longer three point line.

Thompson has very good form on his jump shot, particularly with his feet set, and had a very quick release.  If he is able to extend his range, that is a very much needed skill set on the Sixers.

It would not surprise me to see Thompson stick around on the Delaware 87ers this season as he works on extending his range and adapting to the NBA game.

    I actually got a little bit excited about this until I saw his D-League stats.

  • I like what we’re doing from a rebuilding perspective. One of these guys might turn into a gem(though incredibly unlikely). Of all of our “gems under the rough”, I’m hoping Royce White turns a corner. That kind of court vision and ball handling can’t be taught for a guy of his unique size(6’7 and yet 270?). He can pose all kind of matchup problems in the mid-block area and he would be a devastating passer out of the P N R. My question is, with all that weight, can he play NBA perimeter defense? That’s the big question(outside of all of the medical issues), of his NBA future.

      I would say “No”

      Royce White and perimeter defense should not be used in the same sentence.

    If they were picking from amongst mediocre Big East SF, I would have preferred taking a look at Donta Greene
